Note on Husband: John SUMMERSCALES

North Somerscales from the Hull family visited John in 1818 to learn about the family history. His notes have been published and he confirms that John was then aged about 70, he had a father Richard, a grandfather Richard, a great grandfather William and an elder brother William. John mentioned his own son William then aged 30 and married with children. A second son John (d1852) the father of John later a solicitor in Oldham and another son who'd died before 1818.

John left a will describing himself as a yeoman. He left his shop in Silsden (built on the Earl of Thanet's land i.e. leased) to his grandson John Tillotson son of his late daughter Hannah, he left money to his granddaughter Betty Fortrand, his granddaughter Rebecca Hartley and smaller sums to Mary Ann Whittaker (relationship unknown) living with her mother Mrs Holt of Oldham and Grace Summerscales then living with Josias Summerscales in Silsden.

His farm stock, money etc. was left to his two sons John and William. Will proved 29th April 1829.1,3
